Socialism and the Middle Classes

In Western capitalist countries the concept of class has been distorted by the bourgeoisie so that most working people now consider themselves “middle class.”

Does this mean that socialists have to revise their opinions about class relationships? Is the possibility of a change of society from capitalism to socialism by the working class now unlikely in Western Europe and the United States? Or is the road to socialism for these countries compli­cated by new and hitherto unforeseen factors?

This book attempts to find answers to these questions and others from a Marxist-Leninist perspective. This book is being republished in conjunction with the Party of Communists USA’s Jones-Foster School for Party Education.
